Hosted by GDG Islamabad on 12th July 2025 at Pearl Continental Hotel, Rawalpindi, the Google I/O Extended 2025 event brought the spirit of Google’s global developer conference to local tech enthusiasts. This year’s edition reflected a powerful shift: 88% of attendees were youth, showcasing Pakistan’s rising engagement in emerging technologies like AI, cloud, and mobile development.

The keynote speaker, Saad Hamid, a Singapore-based digital ecosystem builder, opened the event with a thought-provoking session on AI’s evolution. Emphasizing that “AI isn’t new — it’s now more available than ever,” he introduced tools like ADK, A2A, and Agent Garden, encouraging developers to explore AI’s expanded accessibility. Saad also proudly noted Pakistan’s global position 4th in app/game downloads and top 3 in freelancing, highlighting the nation’s role in the digital economy.

Farhan Hassan, Chief Digital Officer at Easypaisa, shared how AI is revolutionizing fintech. From real-time risk assessment and fraud detection to customer behavior analytics and credit scoring, he emphasized AI’s role in leveling the playing field for digital banks and startups alike.
Adding to the local impact, Saad revealed discussions with Shaza Fatima, SAPM on Youth Affairs, about launching national programs like Learn AI and Learn Cloud to upskill Pakistan’s youth for the future.

- Gemini (LLM in Flash, Pro, Nano, and Ultra)
- Imagen 4 (advanced text-to-image)
- Veo 3 (text-to-video with audio)
- NotebookLM, Stitch, Gemma, and Jules — tools designed to support creators, developers, and businesses across industries.
It also showcased Pakistan’s growing use of AI platforms like ChatGPT, Canva’s Magic Studio, Grammarly, and RunwayML, all becoming essential tools for freelancers, educators, and small businesses.
