Optimize Digital, on behalf of GIZ Pakistan, successfully Organized a two-day Civic Hackathon Problem Identification conference on 16 and 17 January, bringing together a vibrant mix of tech experts, policymakers, community activists, and citizens to explore how digital innovation can address local governance and civic challenges.

The conference aimed to lay the foundation for the upcoming Civic Hackathon by identifying key civic issues that could be tackled through digital solutions, fostering collaboration among stakeholders to enhance local governance’s effectiveness and inclusivity. With a focus on digital transformation, participants engaged in lively discussions and workshops that highlighted the most pressing civic problems, including how technology can boost public service efficiency, promote civic engagement, and drive social change through digital education.

Highlights included impactful keynote speeches by Ms. Angelika Fleddermann, GIZ Pakistan’s Country Director, and Mr. Murtaza Solangi, Federal Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting, setting a visionary tone for future governance innovation. Engaging panel discussions, such as “How Digital Technology Can Improve Service Delivery in Pakistan” and “Addressing Skill Disparities Among Youth in KP and Punjab,” further explored practical digital applications in governance and youth empowerment.

An interactive workshop allowed participants to brainstorm problem statements for the hackathon, complemented by inspiring presentations from two women-led startups, Bondh-e-Shams and Atomcamp, showcasing impactful, community-focused innovations.

This Civic Pre-Hackathon marks the beginning of a promising journey toward fostering tech-driven solutions tailored to Pakistan’s civic landscape. Optimize Digital looks forward to continued collaboration and innovation, paving the way for tangible progress in Pakistan’s digital future.
